Zoe Ann Durkin - Program Director
Zoe Ann Durkin
has a Masters in Education and has served as Program Director and an
Instructor in Histotechnology since 1988. Her primary concerns in her
career have focused on helping students develop into capable professionals.
Ms. Durkin was instrumental in bringing the Histotechnician Program to
Goodwin College. She has served as adjunct faculty at Manchester Community
College, University of Hartford and Harford Community College and enjoys
begin an educator and mentor.
Ms Durkin is Vice President of the Northeast Association of Allied Health
Educators, participated in the Coalition for Allied Health Leadership
program in Washington DC, serves as a board of director for Hartford
Healthcare Credit Union (HHCU) and is currently the chairperson for HHCU’s
Human Resource Committee. She volunteers for the National Accrediting
Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) as a team leader, site
visitor and self study paper reviewer. Ms Durkin is also on the Clinical
Laboratory Sciences Programs Review Committee (CLSPRC) for NAACLS. She
reviews programs for Accreditation, Progress Reports and Standards. Ms.
Durkin is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP),
National Society of Histotechnology (NSH), and Connecticut Society of
Histotechnologists.
Throughout her career Ms. Durkin
has given numerous presentations at the national level as well as locally.
The topics include: Preparing for the ASCP BOR HT Practical Exam; The New
Allied Health Student Cost: Benefits and Recruitment; Connective Tissue
Stains; Self - Directed Work Teams; Liver Biopsies: The Aid of Special
Stains for Diagnosis; The Attributes of a Healthcare Professional, The
Affective Domain; Developing a Histotechnician Applicant Screening Process
and Interview Profile
Civic
minded and community orientated Ms. Durkin has worked with the United Way
and Combined Health Appeal Community Campaign as a Loaned Executive,
Chairperson of Hartford Hospital’s United Way campaign and a United Way
Allocation Committee member.
Ms.
Durkin has worked with many professionals and welcomes opportunities to
network and share information.
Marcia L. Dunne
Marcia L. Dunne is an Instructor
in the Histotechnician Program at Goodwin College. She has a BS in
Pathobiology from the University of Connecticut and brings 29 years of
experience to the program.
Among Ms. Dunne’s many
accomplishments: she has been a supervisor of a large productive histology
laboratory, an Instructor in histotechnology since 2000, and an ASCP Board
of Registry Practical Exam Grader for Histotechnicians submitting work to
become nationally certified.
Professional affiliations include Membership in the Connecticut Society of
Histotechnology, where she has served on the Nomination committee and as a
past Newsletter Editor. She is also a member of the Northeast Association
of Allied Health Educators (NAAHE) and is currently the Registration
Chairperson; Ms. Dunne is also a member of the American Society for Clinical
Pathology and is on the Hartford Healthcare Credit Union’s nominating
committee.
Ms. Dunne
is organized and coordinates several different responsibilities. She takes
an active role in her own continuing education and shares valuable
information with her students and peers.
Alice April Walker
Alice April Walker, Sacred Heart University graduate, earned her BS
in Biology. Alice has always possessed a will to reach new heights. Shortly
after completing the Histotechnician program at Goodwin College, she was
added to the faculty as an adjunct instructor in 2007. Ms Walker is a hard
working person who is continuing her studies to help enhance her career. Ms.
Walker enjoys passing her knowledge to others and is well received by her
students.
